Garden Design

The 4 acre Walled Garden at Kirkleatham is a real horticultural gem. Re-opened in 2021 following extensive renovations by RCBC council, this designed space encompasses a number of themes which reflect the areas past. Originally built in the 16th century by the Turner Family, the garden has water, hospitality and learning at it’s heart.

What to see in 2024

We’ve been working hard over the winter months preparing for an exciting abundance in the garden this year. A fantastic tulip display is planned for April and May, followed by enhanced plant displays across the garden, with new perennials and shrubs having been planted to intensify the pre-existing planting of our hospitality garden. We also look forward to blooms from a number of new roses that have been planted on our tea lawn. We have also advanced the planting of our apple maze with lots of native plants to attract pollinating insects. In our kitchen garden, a new polytunnel area in in development which will allow us to cultivate more seedlings on site. Also, watch out for our garden meadow which will become more established this year.

The garden is managed by a small team of gardeners, a dedicated team of garden volunteers and a group of horticultural apprentices.
